Charles Barratt – Chairman
Born, bred and educated in Norfolk, Charles worked for a leading firm of London
Stockbrokers, together with a number of Provincial Stockbrokers throughout the UK,
before qualifying and becoming a Partner in Barratt & Cooke in 1970. Charles
became Managing Partner in 1977, Senior Partner in 1987, and Chairman of the newly
formed Barratt & Cooke Limited in 2005.
Throughout all this time, ably assisted by his “right hand man” Martin
Warren and the excellent staff, Charles has led Barratt & Cooke through:
Privatisation, Big Bang, Black Monday, The Dot.Com Crash and more recently The US
Credit Crisis.
He has used changes in,
Regulation, Computerisation, Compliance
over the years to Barratt & Cooke’s advantage with such innovations as
- The original Provincial Stockbrokers London Dealing Office
- The original Share Shop
- Leaders in the privatisation boom.
Charles Barratt is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.

Martin Warren – Director
Martin joined Barratt & Cooke in 1977 and after working in all departments of
the office became a Partner in 1987. As Partner in charge of Privatisation Issues,
Martin was a Member of the APCIMS Privatisation Committee in 1990. In 2005 Martin
co-ordinated our incorporation to Barratt & Cooke Limited and became a Director
in March 2006. With over 30 years of experience, Martin is responsible for all operations
of the company. He is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered
Institute for Securities and Investment.

William Barratt – Director
William graduated from UWE in 2000 with a degree in Business Studies, during which
he worked for Torrie & Co Stockbrokers, based in Edinburgh, to gain some experience
in Stockbroking and establish whether the family business would be his career path.
After graduating, William worked at Charles Stanley Stockbrokers, in London, where
he assisted in managing private client portfolios whilst also gaining expertise
in the Investment Trust arena. William was also responsible for setting up and running
their Initial Public Offering Desk. In April 2007 William returned to his Norfolk
roots at Barratt & Cooke where he works closely with his father, Charles Barratt,
managing private client portfolios and is involved in the management of the business,
making decisions on the future of the firm. William is a Chartered Member of the Chartered
Institute for Securities and Investment.

Sam Barratt – Director
Sam graduated from Newcastle University in 2004 with a degree in Business &
Agriculture, during which he worked for UBS Wealth Management understudying the
Advisory team. This work placement allowed Sam to gain valuable experience in
the Private Client Stockbroking industry and confirmed this was to be his career
path. After graduating Sam joined Close Brothers’ Asset Management division,
initially working in the Settlement Department before moving into the Dealing
team where he was responsible for executing both Private Client and
Institutional orders. In June 2009 Sam returned to Norfolk to join the family
firm, working in the Dealing Department before becoming an Associate Director in
2010. Sam now works closely with Martin Warren in the management and operations
of the firm and is also the Compliance Director. Sam is a Chartered Member of
the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.

William Mellor – Associate Director
Will graduated from the University of Bath in 2002 with a degree in Economics. After
joining Barratt & Cooke in January 2003 and initially working in the settlement
and administration department, Will was then moved into the dealing department.
After passing all his professional qualifications he then progressed into the Advisory
department as an Investment Manager, working closely with Charles Barratt. In January
2008 Will became an Associate Director and is responsible for company research,
a portfolio of Private Clients and is a member of the management team involved in
making business decisions on the future of Barratt & Cooke. Will is a Chartered
Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.

Miles Piercy – Associate Director
Miles began his career in 1994 with Waters Lunniss & Co Ltd where he trained
and qualified as a dealer. In 1997 he joined Barratt & Cooke in the dealing
department before moving over to the Advisory department to manage client portfolios.
Miles then rejoined the dealing team in 2005 to become Head Dealer, where he is
now responsible for managing the dealing department.
In 2008 Miles became an Associate Director and is involved in the management of
the business. He is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.

Sam Matthews – Investment Manager
Sam graduated from the University of Exeter in 2006 with a degree in Politics.
After joining Barratt & Cooke in October 2006 and initially working in the corporate
action and probate departments, Sam then moved into the dealing department.
After passing all his professional qualifications he then progressed into the Advisory
department as an Investment Manager, working closely with William Barratt and
Will Mellor. Sam takes a particular interest in fixed interest markets and also
assists in investment trust research. Sam is a Chartered Member of the
Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.

Kimberley Mercer – Investment Manager
Kimberley began her career in the private client department at Norfolk solicitors
Mills & Reeve in 1989, specialising in Trust Administration, before moving on
to Steele & Co Solicitors where she made the transition from Trust Administration
to Private Client Investment Management. In 1997 Kimberley joined Hill Osborne Stockbrokers
(later to become Brewin Dolphin) in Norwich, gaining further private client experience
before moving to Barratt & Cooke in 2008. Kimberley is a Chartered Fellow of the
Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.

Robert Steward – Investment Manager
Robert graduated from the University of Nottingham with a degree in History in 2008, joining Barratt and Cooke in the following year.
Robert began working in the dividend department before moving into trade support. In 2010, Robert migrated into the research department,
focusing on equities. Having completed his advisory exams in the summer of 2011, Robert has since joined the advisory team, working
closely with William Barratt and William Mellor, while continuing to have responsibility for research. Robert is a Chartered Member of
the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.

Stephen Skinner – Senior Investment Manager
Born and educated in Norwich, Stephen joined the Trustee Department of Barclays
Bank in 1973 in order to gain experience in many aspects of personal finance including
tax, investment and the roles and responsibilities of trustees. This included the
investment management and review of Trust portfolios, a function he continues to
this day at Barratt and Cooke, having joined the firm from Barclays Stockbrokers
in 1998. In addition to his involvement with trusts, Stephen is responsible for
managing portfolios on behalf of Private Investors and Charities whilst also guiding
legal personal representatives and beneficiaries through the distribution of assets
within estates.

Charles Temple-Richards – Senior Investment Manager
After obtaining a degree at Cambridge University and qualifying as a Chartered Surveyor,
Charles joined the City in 1979, working for the Private Client departments of Scrimgeour
Kemp Gee and latterly James Capel. He moved back to his roots in Norfolk and joined
Barratt & Cooke in 2001. Throughout he has looked after the portfolios of individuals,
trusts, pension funds and charities. Charles has broad experience in equities,
fixed interest and managed funds and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for
Securities and Investment.

William Whitmore – Senior Investment Manager
After graduating from Buckingham University with a 1st Class Honours degree in Accounting
& Financial Management, William joined Price Waterhouse’s head office
as a graduate trainee. In 1985 he joined Morgan Grenfell and started his Stock Exchange
career on the floor of the Exchange. William went on to gain further experience
with Laing & Cruickshank and UBS before joining Barratt & Cooke in 1998
where he manages Advisory and Discretionary portfolios on behalf of individuals,
trusts, charities and pension fund clients. William is a Chartered Fellow of the
Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.
